REWE Digital HackDays

Last week, ThingForward got to attend REWE HackDays, a three day event in REWE Digital in Cologne with REWE employees from all over Germany.

Over the course of three days, 270 attendees worked on 27 projects, with ThingForward and our partner Zerynth in attendance giving talks and being there to support developers. The projects that the attendees worked on were both internal projects for REWE, and innovative solutions for REWE customers.

Luigi Cerfeda, of Zerynth, joined us from Pisa, Italy and gave a talk on Monday about Python for IoT and Industry 4.0 Solutions. This talk introduced Zerynth and showed the ways in which their technology is helping startups and large businesses, with a focus on industrial refrigeration and smart retail. Zerynth is a suite of software tools that simplifies IoT development providing an easy and efficient way to program microcontrollers in Python and connect them to the top Cloud infrastructures, with high-level standards of security.

Day two saw our own Andreas Schmidt give a talk on Prototyping for Fun & Profit where he explained what we’re working on in ThingForward, and also gave an overview and crash course about our other partner, PlatformIO, using the following hardware for the live demo.

On Wednesday, the project presentations took place, with several beautifully handmade trophies being awarded for categories like Best IoT Project, Most Innovative Project, Geekiest Project and Best Low-Hanging Fruits Project.

We’re thankful for having been invited to REWE’s internal HackDays event as a partner company, and we’re looking forward to future collaboration!
